Visit of Vladyka Irenei 2025

Visit of Vladyka Irenei 2025

We welcomed Vladyka Irenei for our Saint Thomas Sunday celebrations. After Vespers on Saturday evening, Vladyka praised the choir for their beautiful performance and their ability to seamlessly transition from Slavonic to English.

On Sunday, after greeting Vladyka, we saw our beloved Reader Sergey, who has served our parish from the beginning, elevated to the rank of Subdeacon amidst the cries of “Axios!” from the faithful. We then celebrated the Liturgy with Bishop Irenei, Father Spasimir, Father Vladimir, Deacon Andrei, Reader George, and the newly ordained Subdeacon Sergey.

At the end of the service, Vladyka delivered a sermon on Saint Thomas, noting his absence during the initial appearance of the Risen Lord and again at the Dormition of the Mother of God. Noting that despite his absence on both occasions, Saint Thomas revealed the joyous truths to the church. Firstly of Christ’s bodily resurrection and secondly of the miraculous ascension of the Mother of God to be with her Son. Vladyka encouraged the faithful to remain steadfast in their faith and not be discouraged by life’s challenges.

We then congratulated Father Spasimir on his birthday, and Vladyka presented him with a card and gifts on behalf of the parish. After the service, we gathered for a festive meal at a community hall, where we enjoyed musical performances from parish children, Bulgarian dancing, and congratulations for Subdeacon Sergey. The hall was fuller than ever, and there was a wonderful sense of joy among all.
