Patronal Feast

Patronal Feast

On Friday 5th December we served Vespers with Litia to begin the festivities for our patronal feast of St Alexander Nevsky. The following morning we served Matins, the Hours and Divine Liturgy in celebration of our heavenly patron. After the service Father Spasimir delivered a sermon about the life of this great Saint, comparing his impact with that of Saint Constantine the Great. He also reminded the faithful of the presence of a particle of his miracle working relics in our church—a rare blessing, especially for a parish in Great Britain.

After the Liturgy our parishioners made their way to a local hall where we celebrated with festive food that was lovingly prepared for the feast. After the meal our growing community continued conversing until the late afternoon. There was an atmosphere of joy that carried through to the Liturgy on the following day.
